Institutions, Evolutions, and Economic Policies

Pavel Pelikan
professor of economics attached to KIE-VSE, formerly professor at the University of Toronto, Stockholms Universitet, and Université de Paris 1 – Sorbonne

The course will examine how the relatively new fields of institutional, evolutionary, and cognitive economics can help to answer fundamental policy questions. Each of these fields will be introduced with references to its basic texts, and their interconnections and applications to policy issues will be based on the lecturer’s own research. This will be open to debate and criticism.

The course will not advocate any specific ideology, but will strive to use value-free analysis for assessing different ideologies and their favorite policies (or absence of policies) according to their chances of success in the evolution of human economies and societies.
